This is the final version of our magazine advert. After our feedback and looking more closely at other similar products we decided to move the writing from the right hand side down onto a strap line. We also added review comments and moved down the release date to make the image less crowded. We also changed the "OH MY GOD" to be smaller than "KAISER CHIEFS".

Our Feedback
Like we've done for the other tasks we have sat down with a focus group to discuss our questionnaire. as well as this though me and Matt sat down today and talked about what we thought was wrong with each of the three individual products. Here is what we said we could improve for the Magazine advert:
- Make it more conventional (writings not where it should be)
- Make Kaiser Chiefs a different size to the Oh my god title
- Add a strap line along the bottom and put all the information down there (making it more conventional
- Add the From of the digipak cover and see if it looks right

The font
We are going to be using the same font as we used for the digipak, a lot of bands do this with their logo and advertising writing. What we are doing is creating a product identity.
This is the chosen text that we will use in all of our print based media work

Here is a few examples of products identities in the music business
The Killers

As you can see all the killers logos are the same on all their album covers this is quite common in the advertising business, not all bands are like this though, the kaiser chiefs don't follow this convention that many over artists, from all types of genre follow.

Fonts and font sizes

This is the font that we have chosen to use in all of our print based media. We are obviously keeping it the same to crate a product identity between the two print based medias.
We wont be using the same font in every single word in our advert and digipak though, we will use different fonts in everything else except the Bands name and the album title. The CD cover below is one of many from The Killers but as you can see their band name and album names are both different fonts and sizes. The size is obviously smaller because they want to emphasize the name of the band. This is so that more people can see the name of the band from far away in the store.

Photoshoot one Thumbnails
Below is a copy of the thumbnails used in the digipak and the magazine article. We decided to use the same photographs in both ancillary tasks because we feel this creates a product identity. I will go through all the thumbnails individually and pick out the best ones. I will then look at editing them and start putting together the magazine advert.

Existing products - What they told us
As you will see below we looked at a variety of different adverts, other than just ones of the Indie genre.
We discovered certain conventions which remained constant throughout all such as the titles of the bang and the album and in all cases the band name was much larger. Also in most cases we found that there were reviews and comments from major figures in the music industry supporting the album.
In our specific genre (Indie) we found that there is usually quite an artistic image used which stands alone and is not covered with text, which I think we will adopt. Also they use strap lines across the bottom which include the release date and sometimes a small amount of information.

Similar products research
We looked at magazine adverts as research into similar types of product to assertain what kind of things and what sort of layout we needed to have.

Taking this advert as a prime example we see that it is not lexically dense and that the image is a fairly understated one, therefore the advert is not overpowering.
We decided that we wanted an image of our main actor on his own, when we had originally planned on using a band shot. We also decided to use only the neccesary amount of words, so meaning the title, what it is and when its released.
